Starting Sharpening Cycle

Now that your RG600PRO has been inspected and prepared we are ready to start the sharpening cycle.

Starting the Cycle

Before starting the machine remember:

  • Confirm size, profile, tilt angle, time is set correctly

  • Confirm bit is positioned correctly and clamped

  • no obstacles in work area

If all of that is correct, place the sharpening cup on the carbide button.

Start operation -> two hand start required by pressing and holding left joystick down and pushing start button.

NOTE: Operation can be stopped at any time by pressing the STOP button or in an emergency the emergency stop.

Inspecting carbide button after sharpening cycle

After the sharpening cycle is completed, the grinder will lift off the button. We recommend at this point you move the arm out of the way and inspect the button to determine if extra time is required.

  • under sharpened (more time required)

  • correctly sharpened (no more time required)

  • over sharpened

Understanding your button bits

In order to maximise your efficiency and effectiveness, it is important to understand when a button bit is ready for sharpenening.

There are three possibilities:

  1. Carbide button not worn enough, less than 25% worn -> leads to premature failure of sharpening cups

  2. Carbide button in ideal range, between 25% - 50% worn. -> 35% worn recommended, most efficient for sharpening cup

  3. Carbide button too worn or damaged, over 50% worn -> too much strain on machine and cup

How to measure level of wear

As carbide buttons wear, they create a flat section on the body of the button. Measuring this flat section and comparing it to the diameter of the button gives us the indication of wear level.
